The Department of Public Governance and Management at Ghent University welcomes applications for an assistant professor of European and International Governance. The full-time tenure-track position will begin on 1 October 2019.
We are seeking excellent candidates with a demonstrated capacity for high-quality research, teaching and service provision, with a focus on issues in governance at the European and/or the international level. We are seeking candidates who can show evidence of their ability to carry out research, teach and consult from multiple perspectives, especially from a public policy/public governance perspective. Scholars with a background in policy sciences, European studies, international economics, public administration, law and other social science disciplines are welcome to apply.
You are interested in public policy research on the development, effectiveness and interconnectedness of international and regional governance regimes. For example, you may be interested in questions such as:
Synergy and complementarity with ongoing work within the Department is particularly welcome, as this appointment is intended to strengthen the research group on European and International Governance. You not only contribute to the relationship-building with relevant academic institutions, but also with relevant EU and international organizations.
You will teach in the Masters in Public Administration and Management (Bestuurskunde en Publiek Management). You will also carry out services internally within the department and faculty, and outreach to society.
You teach 2 elective courses for students from both the Bachelors of Public Governance and Management (Bestuurskunde en Publiek Management) and the Bachelors of Business Administration (Handelswetenschappen).
These two courses are taught within the discipline of European and International Governance, on the following themes:
- Enterprise and government
- International economics
You will also be co-responsible for the following courses:
You will supervise Masters and PhD students.
You conduct research in the discipline of European and International Governance.
You are expected to take part in the internal and external service provision of the department.

Upon evaluation of a foreign (non-EU) diploma, a certificate of equivalence may still have to be requested at NARIC. If this is the case, we advise you to initiate this recognition procedure as soon as possible. You are required to have the recognition no later than on the date of your appointment.

Candidates are asked to further discuss their top 5 most important publications or other academic achievements with the highest impact. Next to academic publications, the candidate is thus also able to show merit of knowledge transfer by academic dissemination, social valorisation, public awareness, seminars or conference presentations. These competences are also taken into account when evaluating the candidates.
The evaluation of the required international mobility is broad and partly takes the gender perspective into account, thus not only considering longer stays abroad by also other forms of internationalisation.
Pregnancy leave, prolonged sick leave, parental leave, filial leave or other forms of absence are taken into account when evaluating the available time for the realisation of academic output.
