The Faculty of Science and the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) are looking for an
Assistant Professor Bio-Analytical Chemistry
In this position you will contribute to the teaching program of the bachelor and master programmes of Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences (~50%) and perform research (~50%).
The research groups Analytical Biosciences & Metabolomics (headed by Thomas Hankemeier) and Biomedical Microscale Analytics (headed by Rawi Ramautar) at the LACDR have an internationally recognized reputation in the field of metabolomics, with a strong track record in designing novel (microscale) analytical tools. The two research groups play a pivotal role in teaching the basics and advances of analytical chemistry and metabolomics in the education program of Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences. By employing research-based teaching, students are trained in the state-of-the-art analytical techniques and approaches for drug analysis and metabolomics.
Teaching tasks will include small and large group teaching on Bio-Analytical Chemistry or general scientific skills as well as individual supervision of students during research projects and thesis writing. As member of the core teaching team for the Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences programmes you will be responsible for implementation of teaching innovation and alignment of the overall curricula.
Next to teaching, you will be part of a team of scientists working on a number of exciting metabolomics-driven projects in the area of clinical and drug research, organ-on-a-chip technology, computational modelling and AI, and epidemiology and translational medicine. Your task will be to lead the development of the required novel technologies and strategies, including study design, data acquisition, data analysis and interpretation of metabolomics data. For this you can use our state-of-the art infrastructure. You will integrate metabolomics data with other omics and metadata as part of national and international collaborations. You will study data from clinical and preclinical samples, including innovative patient-derived organ-on-a-chip models and you will become part of novel initiatives being built with several biobanks and medical centres and the pharma industry.
You will be appointed at the Division of Systems Biomedicine and Pharmacology of the LACDR, which consists of 6 Principal Investigator (PI) groups performing research in the areas of bio-analytical chemistry, metabolomics, biophysics, and (systems) pharmacology/pharmacometrics.
