We are now seeking an assistant professor, associate professor or full professor in the field of Applied Mathematics.
The position is placed in the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences at Tampere University. The Computing Sciences Unit (CSU) of the faculty is a multidisciplinary hub for research, teaching and learning across a wide range of topics in ICT. We carry out both basic and applied research. The successful candidate will be expected to strengthen and expand the research carried out at CSU in the context of mathematical analysis, typically related to (but not limited to) the general field of the Inverse Problems research team, which is part of the national Centre of Excellence in Inverse Modelling and Imaging 2018-2025.
We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished researcher who will be an active and innovative co-builder of our research and teaching in applied mathematics. We are widely interested in academic experts who apply mathematics in different fields, for example in physics, biology, sociology, psychology, biomedicine, imaging, engineering, finance or artificial intelligence. Other application areas of mathematics are also possible as we are primarily interested in finding an expert with a strong mathematical background irrespective of the field.
The guiding principle of CSU and the Mathematics Unit at Tampere University is to break barriers, seek interdisciplinary opportunities and use mathematics as an umbrella science. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the general development of mathematics in the new university. This is a unique opportunity to mould and direct research and teaching in a fresh environment and pursue new ground-breaking projects.

We will expect you to demonstrate how your profile aligns with the strategy of Tampere University and the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences and describe how you would work in a multidisciplinary environment. Ideally, for more senior level appointments, you will have experience of leading or making a major contribution to a research group.
Initial appointment as an assistant professor and associate professor will be for five years. Subject to successful performance, you will become a tenured faculty member at the end of the first five-year period. You will be well supported throughout the five-year period to ease your transition to a tenured position. Full professors will hold a permanent appointment from the outset. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.
Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The starting salary range will be from €4,000 to €4,200/month for an assistant professor, from €4,600 to €4,900/month for an associate professor and from €5,600 to €5,800 EUR/month for a professor. A higher salary may be agreed upon based on the successful candidate’s experience and/or performance.
