TandemLaunch: An Opportunity for an Early-Career Computer Scientist to Start their Own Cutting-Edge Technology Company!
TandemLaunch is a unique Canadian start-up studio. We create cutting-edge technology companies based on research taken straight from major university labs. We focus on commercializing innovations into new products in consumer electronics, hardware-enabled technologies, machine learning, and embedded systems, and operate all portfolio companies on-site in our Montréal, Canada workspace.
We are looking for a doctoral level computer scientist with research experience in machine learning, computer vision, graphics/rendering, image processing, natural language processing, or related artificial intelligence fields. Alternatively, research interests in embedded systems programming, sensors/digital signal processing, and related areas is also desirable.
This role will immediately progress to become a co-founder and manager of one of our portfolio companies, where they are given significant (10 - 20%) equity ownership and are separately paid an annual salary.
Our Engineering Managers are the leaders of all Research and Development at their new startup company, which includes building the raw laboratory-stage technology we obtain into a fully-realized product or prototype. Technical creativity, ingenuity, a high tolerance for ambiguity, and strong project planning/management skills are all core skills to this role. You will work with the TandemLaunch in-house engineering team as well as the first employees of your startup that you will hire after receiving financing.
TandemLaunch identifies novel university inventions to bring to market. A start-up is then formed and funded in stages totalling $600K over a 12-18 month incubation period during which time the Engineering Lead leads the new start-up with the goal of graduating the incubator and raising their first Series A venture capital investment after which they are spun-off, graduating as an independent company. The role combines the realms of product management, engineering leadership, and business development.
Our Engineering Managers are known internally as Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EiR) and are the heart of our start-up studio, the Co-Founders and leaders of our portfolio companies, and the innovative drive behind our success.
We are looking for candidates available for immediate start. We sponsor all required work permits in Canada.
