The Institute of Economic Research (IRENE) at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Neuchâtel, invites applications for a PhD studentship (assistant-e doctorant-e). Job description: The objective of the position is to write research papers, and ultimately earn a PhD in Economics. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Mehdi Farsi (www.unine.ch/irene/home/equipe/mehdi_farsi.html) and is expected to conduct policy-relevant research in energy economics. The position requires from the outset, participation in a research project financed by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, entitled, “Motivations for Investment in Smart Technologies and Energy Efficiency: The Case of Residential Buildings”. The project will provide an exceptional collaboration opportunity with energy companies and a policy consulting firm.
State funding for the PhD position is aimed at teaching assistant duties. Therefore, while the main focus will be on research, the successful candidate will contribute to the economics teaching programs of the faculty. The gross salary corresponds to 60% of the doctoral assistant salary at the University of Neuchâtel (www2.unine.ch/srh/page-37388.html), with six weeks of annual holidays. Possibility of additional funding up to the full-time salary depends on the level of participation in funded research projects.
As a member of the Institute of Economic Research, the doctoral assistant will teach classes and organize examinations; collaborate in ongoing research projects; supervise students; and participate in academic activities of the Institute.
Profile: The candidate should have a master degree in economics. Exceptional candidates who hold a master degree in other fields will also be considered. The candidate will demonstrate a strong potential to produce high-quality research requiring an excellent command of English. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
