The Department of Physics at the University of Gothenburg is located on the main campus of Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, with a total of some 80 employees. The communication routes are good both nationally and internationally. The researching focuses within the fields of Atom- and Molecular Physics, Condensed Matter Physics and Spintronics, and Complex Systems and Biophysics and is performed in an international environment with extensive national and international collaborations. The education programs at the Department include Bachelor- and Master programs in Physics, physics teacher-training programs, as well as outreach courses in Physics aimed for the general public. Gothenburg Physics Centre is a close collaboration with four other departments within the Faculty of Science and Chalmers University of Technology creates an innovative environment for all researchers and students at the department.

The department recruits a senior lecturer in experimental spintronics.
The research within the framework of the employment should complement and strengthen existing activities at the department. The proposed research activities in spintronics should both benefit from the ongoing research activities (http://www.akermanlab.com/research.html) and the existing infrastructure (http://www.akermanlab.com/tools.html) and supplement these with new projects and proposals for new infrastructure. The research group in spintronics at the University of Gothenburg conducts internationally very active and successful research. The department has recently invested in new infrastructure for depositing magnetic thin films, a new BLS microscope for spin wave studies, and GPU-based simulation clusters for micromagnetic simulations in order to assist the experimental results with the best possible modeling. The business is co-located with one of the world's best clean rooms (MC2 at Chalmers University of Technology) and the research groups in nanoplasmonics (Prof. Alexandre Dmitriev) and the department's laser facility (Prof. Dag Hanstorp) and together they have very good access to an extensive instrument park in modern lab rooms.
The main tasks are research and teaching. The tasks include developing an independent research program in spintronics. The candidate is expected to seek funding from external national and international financiers to build and lead a research group. It is essential to develop existing or new international research networks within the framework of the employment.
The tasks also include planning and carrying out teaching at all levels of education. In addition to lectures and exercises, examinations and laboratory work are often included in the teaching. The assignments also include supervising degree projects at the undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as doctoral students in postgraduate education.
Furthermore, the candidate is expected to participate in the institution's activities, for example through administrative assignments, and to interact with the surrounding society, both in collaborative projects and in popular science activities.
A candidate who does not yet have taken courses in higher education may undergo this within two years from access to the employment. The university offers higher education courses.
The candidate is expected to be able to understand and communicate in Swedish within two years. The university offers courses in Swedish.
The general qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the Appointments Procedure for Teachers at the University of Gothenburg. A PhD degree or equivalent foreign degree in a subject area relevant to the position is a requirement. In addition, the ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement.
The assessment of applications will firstly be based on scientific proficiency, and secondly on pedagogical merits. Both will be assessed with the same care.
When assessing scientific skill, special attention is paid to the competence of spintronics with a focus on electrical and optical generation of spin waves in both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic materials, studies of such spin waves both with electrical and optical measuring methods, and microwave and THz components based on these phenomena. Great emphasis will be placed on applicants' ability to renew in the research area. The skill is assessed through publications in international journals with peer-review and bibliometrics (number of citation and h-index). Quality should be given greater weight than the total production of scientific articles. Demonstrated success in obtaining external funding in national and international competition, as well as participation in international collaborative projects and networks, is highly meritorious.
In the second instance, the applications are assessed on the basis of experience of and ability to collaborate with authorities, business and other stakeholders. Good communication and collaboration skills are strong merits. Leadership experience is also counted as a strong merit for the employment.
In the case of teacher employment, the applicant shall be chosen who, after an overall assessment of skill, development potential and suitability, is deemed to have the best conditions for carrying out the tasks that are included in the employment, interact with other staff and contribute to a positive development of the activities at the department. The weighted assessment will also include how the applicant's credentials and plans complement and strengthen the business in accordance with the institution's strategy.
